Biography:
Prof. Deqing Zhang, from the Institute of Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences (ICCAS), Beijing China, graduated from the Department of Chemistry, Beijing Normal University in 1987, and obtained his Mater and doctorate degrees from ICCAS (under the supervision of Prof. Yufen Zhao) and the Department of Organic Chemistry, Max-Planck Institute for Medical Research/Heidelberg University (under the supervision of Prof. H. A. Staab), respectively, in 1990 and 1996. Since the April of 1999, he has been the professor of ICCAS working on the design and synthesis of new conjugated molecules and polymers toward high performance organic optoelectronic materials. He has published more than 400 peer-review papers and received ca. 20600 citations. He served as editorial board and international editorial advisory members of a number scientific journals including Acc. Chem. Res., Adv. Mater., Adv. Funct. Mater., Adv. Sci., Eur. J. Org. Chem., ACS. ABM, ACS Omega, Aggregate, Sci. China Chem..

Abstract:
Conjugated molecules and polymers have been extensively explored because of their promising optoelectronic properties. A great deal of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and hetero-atoms containing analogues have been designed and synthesized as building blocks for organic and polymeric optoelectronic materials. In this presentation, I will firstly report our recent studies on non-benzenoid PAHs with and without hetero-atoms showing semiconducting property. The charge mobility of their thin films can reach 1.27 cm2 V-1 s-1. Additionally, new curved PAHs that were constructed from the planar non-benzenoid small PAHs will be introduced with regard to the synthesis, self-assembly and optoelectronic properties. Secondly, I will discuss our research works on photo-tunable and photo-patternable polymer semiconductors by appending the respective photo-switchable and photo-reactive groups in the side chains of conjugated polymers. Additionally, I will show our recent results about intrinsically stretchable polymer semiconductors through judicious combination of conjugated backbones and side chains.
