For 3-Year PhD students:

- GRSC6033 Research Ethics for Graduate Students (Faculty of Science)*
- One Faculty compulsory course: SSAF6001 Basic Laboratory Safety Course for RPg candidates
- One Departmental Compulsory Course: CHEM 6101 Chemistry seminars
- Elective Course: Depending on the experience of the candidate, additional departmental courses may be recommended by the Supervisor
- A mandatory training course on teaching skills "Certificate of Teaching and Learning in Higher Education."
*RPg students registered on September 1, 2021 or thereafter, GRSC6101 Responsible Conduct of Research & GRSC6102 Stream-based Responsible Conduct of Research will be offered.

To provide more English enhancement opportunities for RPgs, a 30-hour modules, based on the existing “GRSC6027 Intensive English for Postgraduate Students,’ is to be offered to students who are identified of their need of English enhancement by their TOFEL or IELTS scores upon admission. RPgs who are required to take the course will be notified individually by the GS.

This safety course is offered by the University Safety office, and conducted twice a year (i.e. in September and January). Students should register for this course as soon as possible after their commencement date. |

This course aims to provide students with the essential communication skills to give scientific presentation in both written and oral formats. Students taking this course will also have the chance to expose to recent development in frontier research in different areas of chemistry. |

Induction Day
Department will organize an Induction Day for Research Postgraduate (RPg) Students every year. The details will be announced in due course.
Safety Tour & Safety Quiz
You are required to participate in Safety Tour and pass an online Safety Quiz before you can enter the laboratory to start doing your research work. Please visit Room 112A, Hui Oi Chow Science Building or email to Mr. Tony CHEUNG (tonyc91@hku.hk) so as to register for the tour and quiz. Please ignore this task if you have already done so.

A postgraduate scholarship holder is required to undertake in each year, under supervision, services which carry educational benefits for the holder. Please note the 100 hours of assigned scholarship duties in each year are not negotiable and student should perform these duties to the best of their abilities as follows:
- Execute all official teaching duties in English;
- Discharge duties punctually and responsibly and be well-prepared for the duty;
- Obtain permission for absences from Course Coordinators at least 2 weeks in advance;
- Be fully devoted to the assigned work while on duty;
- Exemplify safe practices as outlined in the Departmental Safety Booklet

If you are taking the MTR to HKU Station, please be reminded that Exit A2 is the one that exits to central part of the Main Campus, which is closer all of the Chemistry laboratory buildings: (Chong Yuet Ming Chemistry building, the Kadoorie Biological Sciences building and Hui Oi Chow Science Building) ; whereas Exit C1 exits to western part of the Main Campus.

Shuttle bus services (for students and staff only) You may also travel between various campuses (Main Campus, Medical buildings, Sports facilities) by HKU-operated shuttle buses for around $2-7, per trip), which run on Mondays to Fridays except holidays. Water dispensers
The University of Hong Kong is committed to environmental sustainability and as a role model for the wider community. By September 2020, the University of Hong Kong will be a campus free of disposable plastic. Therefore, no single-use plastic bottles for water will be available in our catering outlets, retail locations and vending machines located on university premises.
