Title:
High impact publication with journal Watt
Schedule:
Date: 4th June, 2026 (Thursday)
Time: 5 - 6 pm (HKT)
Venue: Lecture Theatre P2, Chong Yuet Ming Physics Building
Speaker:
Dr. Rose Zhu
Watt Editor-in-Chief
Biography:
In her 8-years editorial career, Dr. Rose Zhu has led and participated in the launching of six international journals including the Cell Press journal Joule, where she served for 5 years, and the first four Next Journals (Next Energy, Next Materials, Next Nanotechnology and Next Sustainability) of Elsevier acting as the Editor-in-Chief. In April 2025, she moved to Hong Kong to launch the journal Watt, a partnership journal between 21C lab and SpringerNature.
Dr. Zhu obtained her PhD degree in Nanyang Technological University, Singapore followed by postdoctoral fellowship in National University of Singapore, University of California, San Diego (United States) and University of Freiburg (Germany). Her research expertise lies in electrochemistry, nanomaterials, and their energy applications. Dr. Zhu has published 15+ papers as the first author in energy storage and conversion areas.
In her editorial career, she has handled more than 3000 papers covering broad energy topics for Joule including but not limited to Catalysis (electrocatalysis, photocatalysis, thermal catalysis, bio-catalysis etc.), Energy Storage and Conversion (rechargeable batteries, metal-air batteries, flow batteries, aqueous batteries), Renewable Fuels and Feedstock, Electric vehicles, Best protocols of energy performance measurement, Energy Policy and Economic Analysis, Photovoltaics, Thermal energy, Energy Efficiency, Water-energy nexus (seawater resources, solar steam generation, water desalination, water harvesting etc.). During working for the Next journals, she broadened her journey handling more sustainability-related areas such as Climate Change and the Environment, carbon capture, storage and utilization, decarbonizing the hard-to-abate areas etc.
Abstract:
In this talk, Dr. Rose Zhu will bring the introduction of Watt, a journal that aims at top impact, facilitating the lab research with industrial incubation resources, uniting the wisdom from the academia and industry, publishing and policy-makers to turn science into reality. In the Q and A session, she will share her view on what makes a top quality paper based on her 8-year experience as a full-time editor working for leading international journals including the top energy journal Joule, where she launched and worked for 5 years. In particular, Rose will share her opinion on what makes an effective title, how to write the abstract, introduction and conclusion, and what a rigorous results analysis should include. Also, she will share about the role of Cover Letter and how to write it. She will bring her 5-year experience as Joule editor to you to illustrate how to publish your paper with highly impactful journals.
