Title:
From a Scientist to an Entrepreneur: From Lab Innovation to Successful Commercialization
Schedule:
Date: 24th March, 2026 (Tuesday)
Time: 11 am - 12 pm (HKT)
Venue: Lecture Theatre T5, Meng Wah Complex
Speaker:
Dr. Biwang Jiang
Chairman of Suzhou NanoMicro Technology Co., Ltd.
Biography:
Dr. Biwang Jiang is an expert of China’s National High-Level Talent Recruitment Program, an Innovation and Entrepreneurship Talent of the Ministry of Science and Technology, an Outstanding Entrepreneur of Jiangsu Province, and an Outstanding Talent of Suzhou. His honors include the Innovation Contribution Award of the Overseas Chinese Community, Jiangsu Science and Technology Progress Award.
Dr. Jiang obtained his B.S. in Chemistry from Peking University, Ph.D. from SUNY Binghamton, and completed postdoctoral research at UC Berkeley. He later worked as a Senior Research Scientist at Rohm and Haas, USA. After returning to China in 2006, he founded and directed the Nano-Micro Materials Research Center and Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory at Peking University Shenzhen Graduate School.
In 2007, he established Suzhou Nano-Micro Technology Co., Ltd. Leading his team, he developed world-leading precision microsphere manufacturing technologies, commercialized lab innovations, and broke long-term foreign monopoly on key microsphere materials for biopharmaceuticals, flat panel displays and medical diagnostics. Under his leadership, Nano-Micro Technology listed on the STAR Market in 2021, setting a record for the strongest IPO performance at that time.
Abstract:
Why have tiny microspheres become a bottleneck for high-tech industries, and why have they deserved lifelong efforts from generations of Chinese scientists? These minute particles are ubiquitous in high-tech products but invisible to the naked eye.
Dr. Jiang will share how his team made key lab breakthroughs in micro/nanosphere technologies and successfully translated these innovations into commercial products. Based on his journey from academic research to entrepreneurship, he will also discuss opportunities for tech startups in China.
