Biography:

Masahiro Yamashita got PhD from Kyushu University in 1982. He was appointed as Assistant Professor in Kyushu University. Then, he moved to Nagoya University as Associate Professor in 1988, then promoted to a full Professor at the same university in 1998. Then he moved to Tokyo Metropolitan University as a full Professor in 1999. Then, he moved to Tohoku University as a full Professor in 2004. He retired from Tohoku University in 2020. He is now Changjiang Chair Professor of Tongji University (China) and Adjunct Professor of IISER Bhopal (India).

 

In 2005, he received Chemical Society of Japan Award for Creative Work. In 2016, He received Japan Society of Coordination Chemistry Award. In 2020, He received Chemical Society of Japan Award. He has published more than 660 papers, reviews, and books.

 
Abstract:
Nano-wire Pt, Pd and Ni complexes have been attracting much attention, because they show very interesting chemical and physical properties such as strong charge transfers, resonance Raman spectra, gigantic third-order optical nonlinearity, mid-gap absorptions of soliton and polaron. Usually, Pt and Pd complexes take M(II)-M(IV) mixed-valence states, while Ni complexes take Ni(III) Mott Hubbard states. I have succeeded to synthesize Pd(III) Mott-Hubbard states for the first time. In my lecture, I will talk about the new strategy of syntheses, phase transitions, charge fluctuation, and devices.
