Abstract:

The first part of the talk will focus on our work on the synthesis of biological active indoloquinolines, viz. isocryptolepine and neocryptolepine and analogues thereof.^1-3 The two natural products, which have been found to possess anticancer and antimalarial activity, are assembled through palladium cross-coupling reactions and photochemistry. In this part biological activity for some of the analogues will also be discussed. 

The second part of the talk will cover our newly developed chemistry that facilitates the preparation of antimicrobial agents that can photodecompose under light.^4,5 The preparation, photodecomposition products formed, and biological activity will be presented. This chemistry opens up the possibility to develop post-treatment photodecomposable drugs.
