Abstract: 

Dispersive vdW interactions for organic molecules in solution are often treated as small perturbations compared to directed polar, coordination and covalent interactions. This lecture takes a look at the basis for such interactions and how when acting collectively they can direct chemical phenomena like phase behavior, crystal packing and supramolecular coordination chemistry without metal-ligand interactions.
