Abstract: 

Silyl cations are strong Lewis Acids once believe to be difficult if not nearly impossible to prepare, characterize and apply to organic synthesis.This lecture entails our early design of silyl cations for physical studies and characterization followed by our development of a catalytic aryl-aryl Freidel-Crafts reaction and its implementation in the synthesis of novel aromatic molecules.
