8th Asia-Oceania Mass Spectrometry Conference 2020

The Art and Science of Mass Spectrometry: From Fundamentals to Applications

Introduction

From 3rd-9th January 2020, we held the 8th Asia-Oceania Mass Spectrometry Conference, along with the pre- and post-conferences.

The theme for our conference was “The Art and Science of Mass Spectrometry, from Fundamentals to Applications.” This three-day meeting featured daily parallel sessions of educational talks and oral presentations, in addition to daily poster sessions. Topics were broadly themed, ranging from fundamentals, instrumentation, and ion spectroscopy to biomedical and clinical aspects of mass spectrometry. There were also opportunities for vendors to organize, meet with attendees, and exhibit their products and services.

While originally scheduled to be held at The University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong SAR, the conference was held at the University of Macau due to the situation in Hong Kong. Located in Macau, a vibrant city blending the cultures of East and West, the University provided the perfect base to explore everything the city has to offer.

Preconference, 3-4th January 2020
Young Scientist Forum and Short Courses

Continuing in the traditions of the AOMSC, the one-day Young Scientist Forum provided opportunities for young scientists, namely PhD students and post-doctoral researchers, with the opportunity to give oral presentations to their peers from across Asia/Oceania, along with some distinguished professors. Awards were given to the best presenters, who also got the opportunity to present their work during the main conference proceedings. The Young Scientist Forum also included the Career Development Forum, where figures from both industry and academia discussed and answered questions about the opportunities available to young scientists in both types of career.

Postconference, 8-9th January 2020

The AOMSC 2020 postconference meeting was an opportunity to exchange cutting-edge science, including current work and unpublished results. This event took place at The University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong SAR, and offered plentiful opportunities to experience this global city.

Educational Speakers

AOMSC 2020 aimed to provide an opportunity to educate the next generation of mass spectrometrists, along with the presentations of cutting-edge science. As such, many prominent speakers gave educational talks introducing their field, as well as describing the current state of the field.
