Metal Organic Frameworks (MOFs) for Ion Exchange and Gas Separation Applications

Areas of Specialization: Metal-organic frameworks, polyelectrolytes, MOF-polymer hybrids, ion-exchange, gas membrane separations and ionic liquids.

Our society is in urgent need for solutions to numerous energy and environmental problems. In response to these, novel materials are developed. One of these is a class of metal organic frameworks (MOFs). MOFs are highly porous and crystalline materials which have revolutionized many research areas for energy, catalysis, drug delivery, molecular separations, water treatment, and sensing applications. My research interest is in the preparation and application of MOFs, MOF-polyelectrolyte composites and related porous materials for gas and ion separations. To obtain the combined advantages of MOFs with polymers such as enhanced ion selectivity and size exclusion properties, various ion exchange MOF-polymer composites are prepared by in situ polymerization within the nano-spaces of MOFs.
